Shingle roofs in Mesa — what matters
A lot of Mesa's older neighborhoods — the 1960s and 1970s ranch homes in Sherwood, Mesa Grande, Lehi — were originally shingle-roofed and still are. So are a good number of newer east-side homes where the builder spec'd shingle rather than tile.
What matters on a Mesa shingle roof is less the shingle itself (the big three manufacturers all make excellent architectural shingles) and more what's underneath it, how it's fastened, and how the edge details are done. A properly installed GAF Timberline HDZ or Owens Corning Duration on the right underlayment, with correct nailing and proper ridge ventilation, will last its full warranty life in Mesa. A cheaply installed premium shingle won't.
What our shingle installs include
- Tear-off to the deck (unless code and existing system permit a go-over, which we'll discuss honestly).
- Synthetic underlayment across the full roof, not felt.
- Ice-and-water shield at valleys, eaves, and penetrations.
- Drip edge at all eaves and rakes.
- Architectural shingles from a major manufacturer, nailed to spec (six-nail pattern for Mesa's wind zone).
- New step flashing at any roof-to-wall.
- New pipe jacks, vent flashings, and pipe boots.
- Ridge vent and balanced intake where the attic and structure allow.
- Daily cleanup and final magnet sweep.
Wind, heat, and UV
Mesa's UV load is real, and Mesa's monsoon winds are real. We install to Arizona wind-zone fastening patterns and use shingle products rated for the exposure. When we register your manufacturer warranty, it's registered for the full term — not a reduced term from a pattern the installer skipped.
